Abstract
A new catalyst system is disclosed for the production of olefins through oxidative dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons. The catalyst system having the atomic ratios described by the empirical formula BiaNi Ob/Al2O3.

A catalyst for the oxidative dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons comprising an alumina supported catalyst composition having the following empirical formula:
- BiaNiOb/Al2O3
- where:
- a=0.001 to 0.5
- b=the number of oxygen atoms required to satisfy the valency requirements of the elements Bi and Ni.
