Abstract
A system for automatic control of dissolution rates of chemical tablets for water purification for constant flow rate systems. The system includes a treating unit which does not depend upon variable flow rates of water to obtain predetermined variable concentrations of purifying chemical solution. The system includes sensors and a computer for generating control signals to the treating unit for automatically varying the chemical dissolution rate.
Claims17
A system for automatic control of the dissolution rate of treating chemical in a liquid line comprising
- a process line (200) having an upstream portion (202) of untreated liquid and a downstream section (204),
- treating means (201) for treating a portion of said untreated liquid from said upstream portion (202) of said process line (200), said portion of untreated liquid flowing at constant flow rate, said treating means including means responsive to a variable control signal for varying a chemical dissolution rate of treating solid chemical material which is soluble in said portion of untreated liquid to discharge treated liquid of a variable treating chemical dissolution rate into said downstream section,
- a flow meter in said upstream portion (202) of said process line (200) which produces a flow rate signal,
- a residual measurement probe (208) in said downstream section (204) of said process line (200) which produces a residual measurement signal,
- a device for generating a control setpoint signal representative of a desired level of treating chemical in said downstream section (204),
- means (209), (207) (213) for applying said flow rate signal, said residual measurement signal and said setpoint signal to a computer (210), said computer (210) arranged and designed to generate said variable control signal as a function of said flow rate signal, said residual measurement signal and said setpoint signal, and
- means (211) for applying said variable control signal to said means for varying said chemical dissolution rate.
A system for automatic control of the dissolution rate of treating chemical in a liquid line comprising
- a process line (200) having an upstream portion (202) of untreated liquid and a downstream section (204),
- treating means for treating a portion of said untreated liquid from said process line, said portion of untreated liquid flowing at constant flow rate, said treating means producing a variable dissolution rate of treating chemical solution of solid chemical material which is soluble in said untreated liquid at an outlet line (360),
- a batch tank (305) which receives said treating chemical solution from said outlet line (360), said batch tank having a batch outlet line (306),
- an injection pump—variable speed motor assembly (304) having an inlet which is in fluid communication with said batch outlet line (306) and has an injection pump outlet in fluid communication with said process line, and
- means for controlling the speed of said variable speed motor and the resulting quantity of output from said injection pump outlet into said process line as a function of upstream flow rate of said process line, downstream residual chemical level and a manual setpoint, whereby,
- treating chemical concentration of said output of and quantity output from said injection pump outlet is controllably variable without changing the amount of untreated liquid input into the system.
