A straddle-type vehicle, or all terrain vehicle, has an engine located towards the rear of the vehicle such that a main portion of the engine, or power unit, is disposed beneath the seat. The fuel tank extends generally vertically beneath the steering member. The radiator is located at a rear portion of the vehicle rearwardly of the engine where it is protected from collisions and objects striking the front grille. A front storage compartment is also provided in the front portion of the vehicle. The vehicle also has a pivotally connected and removable seat for easy access to the engine. There is also a gap between the seat and the front wheel well through which the driver can pass his feet or where an optional container or auxiliary fuel tank can be secured.
A straddle vehicle comprising a frame, a pair of front wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of rear wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, a steering shaft operatively coupled to the pair of front wheels, a power unit mounted on said frame, a fuel tank, a transmission allowing said power unit to transmit power to at least one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, a seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, wherein substantially all of said fuel tank is disposed below a horizontal plane defined by the uppermost portion of said seat and wherein a main portion of said power unit is disposed beneath said seat, and wherein the vehicle further comprises an open step through area, between said fuel tank and said power unit, to provide easier access to and from said vehicle, and wherein the fuel tank is positioned rearward of the steering shaft.
An all terrain vehicle comprising a frame, a pair of front wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of front fenders positioned above the pair of front wheels, a pair of rear wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, a steering member connected to a steering mechanism for steering said front wheels, a power unit mounted on said frame, a fuel tank, a transmission allowing said power unit to transmit power to at least one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, a seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, wherein substantially all of said fuel tank is located beneath said steering member and below a horizontal plane defined by an uppermost portion of said seat, and said fuel tank extending below the front fenders and being spaced away from a forwardmost portion of said seat.
A straddle vehicle comprising a frame, a pair of front wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of rear wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, a steering member connected to a steering mechanism for steering said front wheels, a seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, a power unit mounted on said frame and having a main portion thereof being disposed beneath said seat, a fuel tank located beneath said steering member, a transmission allowing said power unit to transmit power to at lease one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, said vehicle further comprising an open area located between said fuel tank and said power unit, said open area providing easier access to and from said vehicle.
A straddle vehicle comprising a frame, a pair of front wheels comprising first and second wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of rear wheels comprising third and fourth wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, a water cooled engine mounted on said frame, a transmission allowing said engine to transmit power to at least one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, a seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, said vehicle further comprising a radiator located at said rear portion of said frame, said radiator being below a horizontal plane defined by an uppermost portion of the seat.
A straddle vehicle comprising a frame, a pair of front wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of rear wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, a steering member connected to a steering mechanism for steering said front wheels, a seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, a power unit mounted on said frame and having a main portion thereof being disposed beneath said seat, a fuel tank located underneath said steering member in substantial vertical alignment therewith, a transmission allowing said power unit to transmit power to at least one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, said vehicle further comprising an open step through area located between said fuel tank and said power unit, said open step through area providing easier access to and from said vehicle, said vehicle further comprising a storage compartment located forward of said steering member.
A straddle vehicle comprising a frame, a pair of front Wheels comprising first and second wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of rear wheels comprising third and fourth wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, said first and second wheels defining a first transversal axis and said third and fourth wheels defining a second transversal axis, a power unit mounted on said frame, a transmission allowing said power unit to transmit power to at lease one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, a seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, wherein a main portion of said power unit is located between said second transversal axis and an imaginary axis located at a median point between said first and second transversal axis, wherein a main portion of said fuel tank extends generally vertically and is disposed substantially below the horizontal plane defined by the uppermost portion of said seat, said vehicle further comprising an open area located between said fuel tank and said power unit, said open area providing easier access to and from said vehicle.
An all terrain vehicle comprising:
A straddle vehicle comprising a frame, a pair of front wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of front fenders positioned above the pair of front wheels, a steering member coupled to the pair of front wheels through a steering rod, a pair of rear wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, a power unit mounted on said frame, a fuel tank, a transmission allowing said power unit to transmit power to at least one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, and a straddle seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, wherein substantially all of said fuel tank is disposed below a horizontal plane defined by the uppermost portion of said seat, wherein a main portion of said power unit is disposed beneath said seat, and wherein the vehicle further comprises an open step through area, between said steering rod and a front portion of the seat, to provide easier access to and from said vehicle, said open step through area being provided forward of the front portion of the seat and below a horizontal plane defined by an uppermost portion of the seat, wherein the open step through area has a forward surface defined by a substantially vertical wall member positioned between the pair of front fenders.
A straddle vehicle comprising a frame a pair of front wheels suspended from a front portion of said frame, a pair of rear wheels suspended from a rear portion of said frame, a pair of front fenders positioned above the pair of front wheels, a steering member connected to a steering mechanism through a steering rod for steering said front wheels, a straddle seat located in between said front and rear pairs of wheels, a power unit mounted on said frame and having a main portion thereof being disposed beneath said seat, a fuel tank located rearward of said steering member, a transmission allowing said power unit to transmit power to at least one of said front and rear pairs of wheels, said vehicle further comprising an open step through area located between said steering rod and a front portion of the seat, said open step through area being provided forward of the front portion of the seat and below a horizontal plane defined by an uppermost portion of the seat to thereby provide easier access to and from said vehicle, wherein the open step through area has a forward surface defined by a substantially vertical wall member positioned between the pair of front fenders.
