Prosthetic teeth and method of making therefor

Process for producing an artificial tooth comprising:

• injection molding a first portion of polymerizable material into a mold, and polymerizing said first portion of polymerizable material to form a first external polymeric layer (3)
• injection molding a second portion of polymerizable material onto said first external polymeric layer, and polymerizing said second portion of polymerizable material to form an inner polymeric layer (2) applied on the first external layer (3) and
• injection molding a third portion of polymerizable material onto said inner layer, and polymerizing said third portion of polymerizable material, to form a solid core (1) applied on the inner layer (2), said polymerizable material comprising a blend of:
• (A) from 0% to about 50% of an uncross-linked polymer capable of dissolving in component (B);
• (B) from about 20% to about 66% of a monofunctional polymerizable monomer;
• (C) from about 10% to about 70% of a cross-linked polymer in the form of discrete particles having average diameters up to about 500 microns and being swellable in said monomer;
• and
• (D) from about 7% to about 27% of a di- or polyfunctional cross-linking agent reactive with said polymerizable monomer;
• said percentages being based upon the total weight of A, B, C and D in said composition, said composition being capable of being hardened into a water insensitive object.
