Abstract
A method tests a subscriber line. The method includes providing a classifier to predict a performance characteristic of the line based at least in part on a value of an auxiliary variable. Each value of the auxiliary variable represents a property of the line. The method also includes performing electrical measurements on the subscriber line, using the measurements to predict a value of the auxiliary variable, and predicting the performance characteristic of the line. The act of predicting the characteristic applies the classifier to the predicted value of auxiliary variable.
Claims16
A method of detecting a condition or fault in a subscriber line, comprising:
- developing a classifier based on measurements of a plurality of lines in a training set, the classifier assigning a classification based on the measured attenuation versus frequency characteristics of lines in the training set;
- taking a plurality of electrical measurements on a line under test;
- using the electrical measurements and the classifier to assign the line under test to a classification;
- and
- determining whether the line has the condition or fault from the electrical measurements and the classification
- wherein the classifier is developed from measurements that include two-ended electrical measurements of lines in the training set and the electrical measurements of the line under test are one-ended electrical measurements.
A program storage device storing an executable program of instructions for a method of detecting a fault in a subscriber line, the method comprising:
- assigning a first classification to the line by classifying the line as qualified or disqualified for a data service line in response to electrical measurements thereon;
- assigning a second classification to the line by comparing electrical measurements on the line to electrical measures on a line in a training set;
- and
- determining whether the line has a fault from the electrical measurements on said line and the first classification and the second classification
- wherein assigning a second classification includes assigning the line to a class using a classifier developed from one-ended and two-ended measurements on lines in a training set.
