Abstract
The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a thermoplastic composition comprising a polyphenylene ether resin and a styrenic resin wherein the processes comprises a concentrate of polyphenylene ether resin with an organic phosphate compound. The concentrate allows for ease of handling of polyphenylene ether resin without the risk of dust ignition while obtaining substantially the same physical properties as obtained with polyphenylene ether resin powder. The invention also relates to articles formed out of the compositions made by the process of the invention.
Claims18
A process for the manufacture of a thermoplastic composition comprising at least one polyphenylene ether resin and at least one polystyrene resin wherein the process comprises:
- preparing a solid concentrate comprising a polyphenylene ether resin and at least about 5% by weight of an organic phosphate compound based on the weight of the polyphenylene ether resin in the concentrate, wherein the solid concentrate has less than 5% by weight of particles less than about 75 microns in size;
- and
- blending the solid concentrate with the polystyrene resin.
A process for the manufacture of a thermoplastic composition comprising at least one polyphenylene ether resin wherein the process comprises preparing a solid concentrate comprising a polyphenylene ether resin and at least about 5% by weight of an organic phosphate compound based on the weight of the polyphenylene ether resin in the concentrate, wherein the solid concentrate has less than 5% by weight of particles less than about 75 microns in size.
