Abstract
This invention relates to neurotrophic low molecular weight, small molecule N-oxides of heterocyclic esters amides, thioesters, and ketones having an affinity for FKBP-type immunophilins, and their use as inhibitors of the enzyme activity associated with immunophilin proteins, particularly peptidyl-prolyl isomerase, or rotamase, enzyme activity.
Claims7
A low molecular weight, small molecule N-oxide of a heterocyclic ester, amide, thioester or ketone compound.
A pharmaceutical comosition comprising a neurotrophically effective amount of a low molecular weight, small molecule N-oxide of a heterocyclic ester, amide, thioester, or ketone compound, and pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
A method of promoting neuronal growth and regeneration in various neuropathological situations where neuronal repair can be facilitated in an animal, comprising:
- administering to the animal a neurotrophically effective amount of a non-immunosuppressive low molecular weight, small molecule N-oxide of a heterocyclic ester, amide, thioester, or ketone compound.
