Abstract
The invention provides a method for imparting topographical or protective features to a substrate by contacting a sheet material comprising a thermoplastic layer with a substrate and heating the sheet material to an elevated temperature. The invention also provides a sheet material which comprises at least one layer consisting essentially of one or more thermoplastic, melt-flowable polymers that are semi-crystalline at room temperature.
Claims15
A method for modifying the surface of a substrate comprising the steps of:
- (a) placing on said surface an article comprising a plurality of melt-flowable layers;
- (b) heating said article to cause said article to flow and conform to said surface,
- the melt-flow properties of the individual layers of said article being tailored such that said layers cooperate with each other to achieve the desired coverage of said surface;
- and
- (c) allowing said article to cool while remaining in contact with said surface.
