Abstract
Minimization of waste of information processing resources by orphan computer processes in an information processing system is provided by: assembling information regarding active computer processes on a computer system; classifying each of the active computer processes for which information was assembled as one of a group consisting of legitimate computer processes and orphan computer processes; and processing the orphan computer processes according to an orphan processing protocol.
Claims36
A method of minimizing waste of information processing resources by orphan computer processes in an information processing system, the method comprising:
- classifying each active computer process on a computer system into one of an orphan category comprising orphan computer processes and a legitimate category comprising legitimate computer processes, wherein
- an active computer process is classified in the orphan category when the active computer process has a process owner that does not correspond to a device owner of a terminal device corresponding to the active computer process;
- and
- the active computer process is classified in the legitimate category when the process owner corresponds to the device owner;
- and
- processing each active computer process classified in the orphan category according to an orphan processing protocol.
A method of orphan computer process identification, the method comprising:
- generating process identification information regarding each of a plurality of computer processes operating on an information processing system;
- and
- classifying each computer process of the computer processes into one of an orphan category comprising orphan computer processes and a legitimate category comprising legitimate computer processes, wherein
- a computer process is classified in the orphan category when the computer process has a process owner that does not correspond to a device owner of a terminal device corresponding to the computer process;
- and
- the computer process is classified in the legitimate category when the process owner corresponds to the device owner.
An apparatus comprising:
- a computer-readable storage medium;
- an orphan identification module stored on the computer-readable storage medium, the orphan identification module identifying orphan computer processes running on a target computer system responsive to being executed on a computer system, wherein
- the orphan identification module identifies a computer process as an orphan computer process when an owner of the computer process does not correspond to a device owner for a device corresponding to the computer process.
