Abstract
Islet cell membrane antigen has been purified and, since it displaces islet cell surface antibodies, is of utility in the prevention or treatment of diabetes.

A method for the prevention or treatment of diabetes in a human subject, which comprises administering to the subject an effective amount of an essentially pure pancreatic islet cell membrane antigen or epitope thereof that can bind to islet cell surface antibodies (ICSA).
