Abstract
The present invention concerns a method of finishing machining rotary parts which are at least partially subjected to a hardening process until they are in a condition of being ready for use. The rotary parts may be crankshafts, or bearing surfaces of crankshafts, in particular automobile crankshafts. The object of the invention is to simplify the removal of material when machining bearing locations of a crankshaft which is to be hardened. After the original shaping operation, removal of material is effected at most by cutting machining with a given cutting edge.
Claims31
A method of finishing machining bearing locations of automobile crankshafts which are at least partially subjected to a hardening process so that the bearing locations do not require further material removal, comprising:
- effecting removal of material by cutting machining with a given cutting edge after an original shaping operation, and
- terminating cutting machining when at least one of a) a roundness deviation is less than 60 μm, b) a diameter deviation, as a positive deviation with respect to a reference contour after a finishing operation, is less than 200 μm, and c) a roughness is less than 10 μm.
