Abstract
An animal, e.g., transgenic mouse, in which the MSH5 gene is misexpressed. The animal is useful for screening treatments for a number of conditions. Methods for identifying contraceptive agents are also described.
Claims16
A transgenic mouse whose genome comprises a homozygous null mutation in the endogenous MSH5 gene, wherein said mouse exhibits abnormal development of the gonads.
An isolated cell, or a purified preparation of cells from a transgenic mouse whose genome comprises a homozygous null matation in the endogenous MSH5 gene, wherein production of functional MSH5 is inhibited.
A method of evaluating a fertility treatment, comprising:
- administering said treatment to a transgenic mouse whose genome comprises a null mutation in the endogenous MS5 gene, wherein said mouse exhibits abnormal development of the gonads and is infertile, and determining the effect of the treatment on fertility of said mouse, thereby evaluating said fertility treatment.
A transgenic mouse whose genome comprises a homozygous null mutation in the endogenous MSH5 gene, wherein said mouse is generated by homologous recombination and exhibits abnormal development of the gonads.
