Abstract
A series of novel phosphorus-containing compounds suitable for use as a flame retardant having the following formula are disclosed: wherein R1-R8 independently are H or C1-C4 alkyl; Y is —OH or wherein Q is H, —NO2, —NH2, —OH, —CH3, —CHO, —COOH, A is —O—, —, —CH2—, or —C(CH3)2—; R9 and R10 independently are H, or C1-C4 alkyl.

A phosphorous-containing compound having the following chemical formula (I):
- wherein R1-R8 independently are H or C1-C4 alkyl;
- Y is —OH or
- X is Q or
- wherein R1-R4 are defined as above;
- Q is H, —NO2, —NH2, —OH, —CH3, —CHO, —COOH,
- R9 and R10 independently are H or C1-C4 alkyl;
- and
- A is —O—,
- —, —CH2—, or —C(CH3)2—.
