Abstract
X-radiation sensitive photothermographic imaging materials contain X-radiation sensitive phosphors in association with photosensitive silver halide. These phosphors provide an increase in imaging sensitivity and improved image contrast. Both intensifying and storage phosphors can be used.
Claims25
An X-radiation sensitive photothermographic material comprising a support having on at least one side thereof, one or more imaging layers comprising a binder and in reactive association:
- a. a photosensitive silver halide,
- b. a non-photosensitive source of reducible silver ions,
- c. a reducing composition for said reducible silver ions, and
- d. a phosphor that is sensitive to X-radiation and is present in an amount of at least 0.1 mole per mole of total silver.
An X-radiation sensitive photothermographic material comprising a support having on one side thereof, a photothermographic imaging layer having a dry coating weight of from about 5 to about 200 g/m2, and a surface protective layer, said imaging layer comprising a binder and in reactive association:
- a. a photosensitive silver halide,
- b. a non-photosensitive source of reducible silver ions,
- c. a reducing composition for said reducible silver ions, and
- d. a phosphor that is sensitive to X-radiation and is present in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 20 mole per mole of total silver,
- said phosphor being one or more of YTaO4, YTaO4:Nb, Y(Sr)TaO4, and Y(Sr)TaO4:Nb.
An imaging precursor emulsion comprising the following component d in combination with any two or more of the following components a, b, and c:
- a. a photosensitive silver halide,
- b. a non-photosensitive source of reducible silver ions,
- c. a reducing composition for the reducible silver ions, and
- d. a phosphor that is sensitive to X-radiation.
