Abstract
Fluorinated olefins and fluorinated vinyl ethers, each having sulfonyl azide groups, are useful monomers in preparing fluoropolymers having functional side groups. Such functional side groups are useful in curing the fluoropolymers and also for enhancing the adhesion of the fluoropolymers to other substrates.

A fluoroalkanesulfonyl azide compound of the formula
- CF2═CF—(O)p—Rf—(CH2)n—S(O)qN3
- wherein p=0 or 1;
- n=0-4;
- q=1 or 2;
- and Rf is a C1-C16 perfluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkoxy group.

- CX1X2═CX—(O)p—Rf—(CH2)n—S(O)qN3
- wherein X, X1, X2 are independently H or F, with the proviso that X, X1, and X2 can not all be F;

- and Rf is a perfluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkoxy group.
