Abstract
Methods for diagnosing multiple myeloma are disclosed. These methods are based upon the observation that tumor rejection antigen precursors are expressed in multiple myeloma. By assaying bone marrow samples, one can diagnose multiple myeloma, and also monitor the disease's progress. Therapeutic approaches to multiple myeloma are also disclosed.
Claims10
A method for determining possible multiple myeloma comprising contacting a cell containing sample taken from bone marrow or blood of a patient with an antibody specific for a tumor rejection antigen precursor associated with multiple myeloma and assaying said cell containing sample for binding of the antibody to cells in said sample, wherein binding of said antibody to said cells in said sample is indicative of possible multiple myeloma in said patient.
A method for determining possible multiple myeloma comprising contacting a cell containing sample taken from bone marrow or blood of a patient with a cytolytic T cell which recognizes complexes of a peptide derived from a tumor rejection antigen precursor associated with multiple myeloma and an HLA molecule to which said peptide binds, wherein proliferation of said CTLs or lysis of cells in the cell containing sample is indicative of possible multiple myeloma in said patient.
