Abstract
In a method for acquiring time-resolved and location-resolved, three-dimensional datasets by magnetic resonance and an apparatus for the implementation of the method the three-dimensional k-space is divided into annular segments in a phase coding direction. The phase coding steps are defined in their chronological sequence such that the central segment of k-space is acquired more often than outer segments. The spatial/temporal resolution thus can be improved, particularly in MR angiography.
Claims8
A method for acquiring time-resolved and spatially resolved three-dimensional datasets by magnetic resonance, comprising the steps of:
- (a) exciting nuclear spins in an examination subject;
- (b) phase coding said nuclear spins in a first direction with a first phase coding gradient and in a second direction with a second phase coding gradient;
- (c) reading out said nuclear spins from said subject under a readout gradient in a third direction;
- (d) repeating steps (a) through (c) with respectively different combinations of phase coding in said first and second directions, to acquire a plurality of three-dimensional datasets occupying three-dimensional k space in respective segments, said segments comprising a central, cylindrical segment and a plurality of annular cylindrical segments successively surrounding said central cylindrical segment, each of said segments having a longitudinal axis in said third direction;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (a) through (d) for acquiring a plurality of three-dimensional datasets respectively allocated to a plurality of different time spans, with the different combinations of said phase coding gradients in step (d) having a chronological sequence so that data occupying said central k space segment are acquired more often than data occupying said annular segments.
A magnetic resonance tomography apparatus comprising:
- (a) a basic field magnet adapted to receive an examination subject in an examination field;
- (b) a gradient system for producing a readout gradient and two phase coding gradients, in respectively different directions, in said examination field;
- (c) a radio frequency system for exciting nuclear magnetic resonance signal in said subject and for receiving said nuclear magnetic resonance signals from said subject;
- (d) a signal processor for sampling and storing the nuclear magnetic resonance signals received from said subject and for reconstructing an image therefrom represented by three-dimensional k space;
- and
- (e) a control unit connected to said gradient system for operating said gradient system to readout said nuclear magnetic resonance signals in k space segments, said segments including a cylindrical, central segment and a plurality of cylindrical annular segments successively surrounding said central segment and having respective longitudinal axes in a direction of said readout gradient, and for causing nuclear magnetic resonance signals in said central segment of k space to be acquired more often than nuclear magnetic resonance signals in said annular segments.
