Abstract
An observer tracking directional display comprises a spatial light modulator associated with a movable parallax optic. An observer tracker determines the position of an observer and controls the position of the optic by way of an electromechanical transducer and a mechanical transmission. The mechanical tracking arrangement has a plurality of stationary positions for the parallax optic relative to the spatial light modulator (SLM) and steps between these positions so as to optimize the viewing windows for the current position of the observer.
Claims30
An observer tracking directional display comprising an image display, a parallax device co-operating with the image display to define at least one viewing zone from which the image display is visible, and an observer tracker for determining the position of an observer, wherein the observer tracking directional display further comprises an electromechanical system responsive to the observer tracker for moving the parallax device relative to the image display in discrete steps from any of a plurality of pre-selected steps to any other of the plurality of pre-selected discrete stationary positions so that the viewing zone tracks the position of the observer, and
- when moving the parallax device from any of the plurality of pre-selected steps to any other of the plurality of pre-selected steps having a plurality of intermediate steps therebetween, movement of the parallax device need not stop at each intermediate step therebetween.
