Abstract
The present invention provides a scaffold fixation device for fastening an articular cartilage scaffold to underlying bone, which device provides controlled loading of the cartilage scaffold.
Claims5
A scaffold fixation device suitable for use in articular cartilage repair, comprising:
- means for anchoring said fixation device to bone,
- a load support comprising an upper surface and a lower surface;
- and
- means for providing deformation of said fixation device, wherein said deformation provides a controlled load on a scaffold provided with said fixation device, which controlled load is effective to stimulate growth of cells and synthesis of a cell matrix in and/or on said scaffold without substantially damaging said cells, cell matrix or scaffold.
