Abstract
Novel mixtures of perfluoroalkyl halides and derivatives thereof are described. These mixtures contain some compounds with a straight perfluoroalkyl group and some with a branched perfluoroalkyl group. Methods of preparation and use are also described.

A composition comprising compounds of the formula Rfsb—(Z), wherein Rfsb represents a plurality of perfluoroalkyl groups, wherein about 60 to about 90% of the perfluoroalkyl groups in said compounds are straight chain and about 10 to about 40% of the perfluoroalkyl groups in said compounds are branched chain, and Z is an organic functional moiety selected from carbonyl-containing, sulfonyl-containing, alkylene-containing, nitrogen-containing, and oxygen-containing moieties.
