Abstract
A dielectric fluid system for use in electrical equipment comprising a dielectric fluid comprising vegetable oil and an oxidation reducing composition encased in a housing composed of a polymeric material that is substantially permeable to oxygen. The oxidation reducing composition is placed inside the electrical equipment such that it is in contact with a headspace defined by the dielectric fluid. Devices generating and distributing electrical energy incorporating the above-described dielectric fluid system and method of retrofilling such devices also are provided.
Claims21
A dielectric fluid system for use in electrical equipment comprising:
- a dielectric fluid consisting essentially of vegetable oil, wherein the fluid has a viscosity between about 2 and about 15 cSt at 100° C. and less than about 110 cSt at 40° C.;
- and
- an oxidation reducing composition enclosed in a housing composed of a polymeric material that is substantially permeable to oxygen, wherein the oxidation reducing composition is in contact with a headspace of the dielectric fluid.
A device for the generation or distribution of electrical energy comprising:
- (1) an electrical deice, containing a dielectric fluid, wherein the dielectric fluid consists essentially of vegetable oil, and wherein the fluid has a viscosity between about 2 and about 15 cSt at 100° C. and less than about 110 cSt at 40° C.;
- and
- (2) an oxidation reducing composition enclosed in a housing composed of a polymeric material that is substantially permeable to oxygen, wherein the oxidation reducing composition is in contact with a headspace of the dielectric fluid.
A process for retrofilling an electrical device containing a non-vegetable oil dielectric fluid comprising replacing the non-vegetable oil fluid with a dielectric fluid system comprising a dielectric fluid consisting essentially of vegetable oil and an oxidation reducing composition, wherein the fluid has a viscosity between about 2 and about 15 cSt at 100° C. and less than about 110 cSt at 40° C., and wherein the oxidation reducing composition is enclosed in a housing composed of a polymeric material that is substantially permeable to oxygen and wherein the oxidation reducing composition is in contact with a headspace of the dielectric fluid.
