Abstract
A roof-mounted wind turbine includes turbine vanes that are linear-shaped and do not have the conventional convex curvature. Additionally, the turbine vanes are made in common with one another or with a common turbine component, so that each vane does not require individual handling nor individual attachment to the turbine assembly as is required in the construction of conventional wind turbines that are commercially available today. This is accomplished by producing the vanes by molding or extruding techniques that are commonly used in making plastic assemblies or components.
Claims19
A wind turbine ventilator assembly comprising, in combination:
- a mounting bracket adapted for attachment to a roof-mounted air flow conduit;
- a turbine head coupled to the mounting bracket for rotation about an axis, the turbine head including:
- a base member;
- a crown member;
- and,
- multiple vanes extending between the base member and the crown member, wherein at least two or more of the vanes are integrally formed with the base member or with the crown member.
A wind turbine ventilator assembly comprising, in combination:
- a mounting bracket adapted for attachment to a roof-mounted air flow conduit;
- a turbine head coupled to the mounting bracket for rotation about an axis, the turbine head including:
- a base member;
- a crown member;
- multiple vanes extending between the base member and the crown member;
- and,
- an internal exhaust air diffuser disposed in the turbine flow chamber, the air diffuser including a sloping sidewall defining a flow passage having a gradually diminishing air flow area through the turbine chamber, thereby directing the exhaust air toward the turbine vanes as it flows through the throat of the turbine, the sloping sidewall including a linear sidewall portion and a curved sidewall portion, wherein the curved sidewall portion forms a concave surface which redirects the flow of exhaust air from a direction generally in parallel with the longitudinal axis of the turbine to a direction generally radially toward the vanes.
A wind turbine ventilator assembly comprising, in combination:
- a mounting bracket adapted for attachment to a roof-mounted air flow conduit;
- a turbine head coupled to the mounting bracket for rotation about an axis, the turbine head including:
- a base member;
- a crown member;
- multiple vanes extending between the base member and the crown member;
- and,
- each vane including three segments arranged generally in a Y configuration in radial section, with two of the segments forming a pocket for capturing incident ambient wind currents, and the other segment forming a venturi passage in combination with an adjacent vane segment for promoting the withdrawal of air through the opposite side of the turbine.
A wind turbine ventilator assembly comprising, in combination:
- a mounting bracket adapted for attachment to a roof-mounted air flow conduit;
- a turbine head coupled to the mounting bracket for rotation about an axis, the turbine head including:
- a base member;
- a crown member;
- and
- multiple vanes each attached on opposite ends to the crown member and to the base member, respectively, each vane, the crown member and the base member including coacting male and female fastener portions that are joined together in interlocking relation, respectively, wherein the male fastener portion comprises a barb, and the female fastener portion comprises an internal sidewall dimensioned for an interference fit with the barb.
A wind turbine ventilator assembly comprising, in combination:
- a mounting bracket adapted for attachment to a roof-mounted air flow conduit;
- a turbine head coupled to the mounting bracket for rotation about an axis, the turbine head including:
- a base member;
- a crown member;
- and
- multiple vanes each attached on opposite ends to the crown member and to the base member, respectively, each vane, the crown member and the base member including coacting male and female fastener portions that are joined together in interlocking relation, respectively, wherein the male fastener portion comprises a bayonet formed on the vane and the female fastener portion comprises an opening formed on the crown or on the base, the opening being dimensioned for ramped entry, snap-latch engagement.
