Image forming apparatus having a separating and charge eliminating device for charge eliminating a recording material from the photosensitive drum

An image forming apparatus comprising:

• an image bearing member for bearing a toner image;
• transfer means for electrostatically transferring the toner image on said image bearing member to a transfer material;
• and
• wherein said transfer means includes a transfer member forming a nip with said image bearing member, constant current control means for controlling a current to be applied on said transfer member to a predetermined value, constant voltage control means for controlling a voltage to be applied on said transfer member to a predetermined value, and switching means for switching said constant current control means and said constant voltage control means,
• wherein said switching means effects switching to said constant voltage control means in the vicinity of a trailing end of the transfer material in transferring operation, and
• wherein a current value applied on said transfer member by said constant voltage control means is larger than a current value applied on said transfer member by said constant current control means.
