Abstract
A molding device is provided for the manufacture of a connector. Two mold halves are provided movable relative to one another, which provide molding spaces when the molds are closed for forming the connector housing and a retainer. One mold half includes a space with a core portion for forming a retainer insertion hole in the connector housing, and a retainer forming portion for forming the retainer in a position lateral of the core portion. The mold is also provided with inserting means for inserting the retainer into the insertion hole after the molding of the two pieces.
Claims14
A molding device for manufacturing a connector, the connector comprises a connector housing comprising a plurality of cavities into which a terminal member is inserted, and a retainer is pushed into the connector housing to be mounted thereon, the retainer when mounted in the connector housing secures each terminal member in the connector housing to prevent removal, the connector housing includes a retainer insertion hole in a side surface into which the retainer is inserted, the retainer being laterally positioned of the retainer insertion hole;
- the molding device comprising:
- a pair of molds that are moved relative to each other to be connected with each other and separated from each other, including a first mold and a second mold, the first mold including a core portion having a retainer insertion hole forming portion that forms the retainer insertion hole along a direction parallel to an opening and closing direction of the first and second molds and a retainer forming portion for forming a part of the retainer, the retainer forming portion extending laterally of the retainer insertion hole forming portion in a direction perpendicular to the opening and closing direction so that the retainer is formed laterally of the housing;
- molding spaces being provided between the first and second molds when closed, the spaces being provided for molding the connector housing and the retainer;
- and
- inserting means for inserting the retainer into the retainer insertion hole along the direction perpendicular to the opening and closing direction from an opening on the side surface of the retainer insertion hole.
A molding device for manufacturing a connector having a connector housing and a retainer, the retainer being insertable into a retainer insertion hole on a side surface of the connector housing, the molding device comprising:
- first and second molds movable relative to each other to be connected with each other and separated from each other, the first mold having a core portion that forms the connector housing with a connector housing forming portion of the second mold so that the connector housing extends along a first direction parallel to an opening and closing direction of the first and second molds, the core portion having a retainer insertion hole forming portion that forms the retainer insertion hole along the first direction so that an opening is formed on the side surface of the connector housing, the first mold further having a first retainer forming portion that extends continuously from the core portion in a second direction that is transverse to the first direction, and that forms the retainer with a second retainer forming portion of the second mold so as to position the retainer laterally of the connector housing;
- and
- inserting means movable in the second direction and configured to insert the retainer into the retainer insertion hole from the opening on the side surface of the connector housing along the second direction.
