Honeycomb crash pad

A method for making a liner having a crash pad for installation in a vehicle, said method comprising the steps of:

• a) providing a crash pad comprising:
• a honeycomb made from energy absorbing material, said honeycomb comprising:
• a first face which is locatable adjacent to an interior surface of said vehicle, said first face having a perimeter;
• a second face which is attachable to a liner wherein said second face has a perimeter;
• a side surface which extends between said first and second faces at the perimeter of said first and second faces;
• a cover plate having an outside surface, an inside surface and a perimeter wherein said outside surface is shaped to match said interior surface of said vehicle and said inside surface is shaped to match the first face of said honeycomb, said inside surface being attached to said honeycomb first face;
• and
• one or more positioning elements located on the outside surface of said cover plate which are used to position said second face onto said liner when said second face is attached thereto;
• b) providing a tool for applying said crash pad to said liner wherein said tool comprises positioning elements adapted to engage the positioning elements on said cover plate;
• c) engaging said positioning elements on said tool with the positioning elements on said cover plate;
• and
• d) mounting said crash pad to said liner using said tool to position said crash pad relative to said liner.
