Abstract
A cryocooler with a regenerator comprising one or more regenerator components, which are ductile and oxidation resistant, including a rare earth metal, an alloy of two or more rare earth metals, an alloy of a rare earth metal with a non-rare earth metal, and an alloy of a rare earth metal with at least one interstitial element.
Claims28
A cryocooler having a regenerator comprising a regenerator component selected from the group consisting of a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals, a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with a non-rare earth metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf, and Th, and a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with an interstitial element.
A cryocooler having a low temperature stage and a higher temperature stage, wherein at least one stage includes a passive magnetic regenerator comprising a regenerator component selected from the group consisting of a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals, a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with a non-rare earth metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf, and Th, and a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with an interstitial element.
A passive magnetic regenerator comprising a component selected from the group consisting of a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals, a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with a non-rare earth metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf, and Th, and a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with an interstitial element.
A cryocooler having a regenerator comprising a regenerator material comprising a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals selected from the group consisting of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Sc, and Y.
A cryocooler having a regenerator comprising a regenerator material comprising a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal and an interstitial element selected from the group consisting of H, B, C, N, O, and F.
A cryocooler having a regenerator comprising a regenerator material comprising a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal and a non-rare earth metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf, and Th.
A cryocooler having a regenerator comprising a plurality of regenerator components including a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals and a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal and an interstitial element.
A cryocooler having a low temperature stage and a higher temperature stage, wherein at least one stage includes a passive magnetic regenerator comprising a regenerator component selected from the group consisting of a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals, a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with a non-rare earth metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf, and Th, and a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with an interstitial element selected from the group consisting of H, B, C, N, O, and F.
A passive magnetic regenerator comprising a component selected from the group consisting of a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals, a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with a non-rare earth metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf, and Th, and a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with an interstitial element selected from the group consisting of H, B, C, N, O, and F.
A cryocooler having a regenerator comprising a first regenerator component selected from the group consisting of a solid solution alloy of two or more rare earth metals, a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with a non-rare earth metal, and a solid solution alloy of a rare earth metal with an interstitial element and a second regenerator component selected from the group consisting of copper and its alloys, stainless steel, lead, and a rare earth metal.
