Abstract
The invention provides MurC polypeptides and DNA (RNA) encoding MurC polypeptides and methods for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques. Also provided are methods for utilizing MurC polypeptides to screen for antibacterial compounds.
Claims20
An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a nucleic acid sequence that is identical to nucleotides 396 to 1727 of SEQ ID NO:1, except that, over the entire length corresponding to nucleotides 396 to 1727 of SEQ ID NO:1, up to thirty nucleotides are substituted, inserted or deleted for every 100 nucleotides of nucleotides 396 to 1727 of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is not genomic DNA and wherein the nucleic acid sequence detects Streptococcus pneumoniae by hybridization.
An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a nucleic acid sequence comprising nucleotides 396 to 1727 of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is not genomic DNA.
An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a nucleic acid sequence that encodes a polypeptide comprising SEQ ID NO:2, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is not genomic DNA.
An isolated polynucleotide segment comprising a nucleic acid sequence that encodes a polypeptide consisting of SEQ ID NO:2, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is not genomic DNA.
