Abstract
Synthetic enantiomeric esters are employed as energy substrates for parenteral or enteral nutritional formulations. The substrates are provided in substantially monoisomeric or anomeric forms readily utilized in patient metabolism.
Claims7
A nutritional composition for providing enteral or parenteral nutrition to a patient comprising:
- (a) an α-D-glucopyranosyl C2-C20 alkanoate;
- and
- (b) a β-D-glucopyranosyl C2-C20 alkanoate, wherein the weight ratio of (a):(b) is greater than about 2:1.
A method for providing nutritional support to a patient comprising enterally or parenterally administering to a patient in need of nutritional support a nutritional composition comprising a solution of:
- (a) an α-D-glucopyranosyl C2-C20 alkanoate;
- and
- (b) β-D-glucopyranosyl C2-C20 alkanoate, wherein the weight ratio of (a):(b) is greater than about 2:1.
