Abstract
The oxygen concentration of a sample is determined utilizing a water-soluble metal ligand complex which is brought into interactive proximity with the sample to form a mixture. The mixture is irradiated with electromagnetic light energy so as to cause emission of light indicative of oxygen. The emitted light is measured, and the measurement utilized so as to determine oxygen concentration of the sample.
Claims9
A method of conducting an assay of a sample containing oxygen in aqueous solution, comprising the steps of:
- a) bringing a solution containing a water-soluble metal ligand complex into direct contact with said sample containing oxygen in aqueous solution so as to form a mixture;
- b) irradiating said mixture with electromagnetic light energy so as to cause emission of light indicative of said oxygen in said sample;
- and
- c) measuring the emitted light and utilizing the measurements of the emitted light so as to determine oxygen concentration of said sample, wherein said metal ligand complex is selected from the group consisting of [Ru(dpp(SO3Na)2)3]Cl2, [Ru(dpp(SO3Na)2)2(dcbee)]Cl2, [Ru(dpp(SO3Na)2)2(dcbmgly)]Cl2, [Os(dpp(SO3Na)2)3]Cl2, [Re(dpp(SO3Na)2)(CO)2, (Py-COOEt)](PF6), and [Re(bcp)(CO)2 (Py-SO3Na)](PF6).
