Abstract
A coagulant which is the reaction product of a trivalent metal salt (eg., FeCl3), excluding chromium salts, an acid phosphorous compound and an aluminum hydroxy chloride, and a process for preparing such coagulant. This coagulant may be effectively used to remove suspended solids and various impurities in most water treatment applications.
Claims11
A composition comprising the reaction product formed by the reaction of 3 to 30 parts by volume of an aqueous solution containing about 40 wt % active FeCl3, 0.5 to 10 parts by volume of an aqueous solution containing about 50 wt % (Al(H2PO4)3.XH2O), and 5 to 20 parts by volume of an aqueous solution containing about 50 wt % Al2(OH)5Cl, wherein the reaction product has the following structure:
- Iron (III) salt of [Aln(OH)a(H2PO4)bClc(H2O)d]3n−a−b−c
- wherein a+b+c>3n;
- n, a, b, c and d are defined based on the relative amounts of reactants.
