Abstract
A magnetic embolic agent for magnetic placement in a vascular defect includes a bicompatible polymer, a solvent, an adhesive, and magnetic particles.
Claims49
A magnetic embolic agent for magnetic placement in a vascular defect to form an embolus in the defect to occlude the defect, the agent comprising:
- between about 5 and about 50 weight percent biocompatible polymer;
- between about 40 and about 90 weight biocompatible solvent capable of solubilizing the biocompatible polymer;
- between about 1 and about 20 weight percent adhesive;
- and
- between about 5 and about 50 weight percent magnetic particles responsive to a magnetic field.
A biocompatible magnetic mixture which can be ejected through a standard microcatheter and held magnetically within a vascular defect, comprising
- magnetic particulate between about 5 and about 50 weight percent;
- a polymer between about 5 and about 50 weight percent;
- a solvent which dissolves the polymer between about 40 and about 90 weight percent;
- a said magnetic particulate and polymer being homogeneously distributed throughout said solvent which precipitates from the solution as the magnetic mixture is deposited into said vascular defect and held by an externally applied magnetic field.
A biocompatible magnetic mixture which can be delivered through a microcatheter and held magnetically within a vascular defect composed of:
- magnetic particulate between about 5 and about 50 weight percent
- polymer between about 5 and about 50 weight percent
- an adhesive agent between about 1 and about 20 weight percent
- solvent which dissolves the polymer between about 40 and about 90 weight percent, said adhesive agent improving the cohesiveness and tissue attachment characteristics of the said magnetic mixture while magnetic particulate, adhesive agent and polymer is homogeneously distributed throughout said solvent which precipitates from the solution as the magnetic mixture is deposited into said vascular defect and held by an externally applied magnetic field.
A biocompatible magnetic mixture which can be delivered through a microcatheter and held magnetically within a vascular defect composed of:
- magnetic particulate between about 5 and about 50 weight percent
- an adhesive agent between about 5 and about 50 weight percent
- said magnetic particulate are homogeneously distributed within the said magnetic mixture and said magnetic mixture can be deposited into said vascular defect and held by an externally applied magnetic field.
A biocompatible magnetic mixture which can be delivered through a microcatheter and held magnetically within a vascular defect composed of:
- magnetic particulate between about 5 and about 50 weight percent
- a dispersion agent between about 1 and about 50 weight percent
- an adhesive agent between about 10 and 95 weight percent
- said dispersion agent improves the homogeneity of the said magnetic particulate within the said magnetic mixture and said magnetic mixture can be deposited into said vascular defect and held by an externally applied magnetic field.
A biocompatible magnetic mixture which can be delivered through a microcatheter and held magnetically within a vascular defect composed of:
- a coated magnetic particulate between about 5 and about 90 weight percent
- a solvent between about 10 and about 90 weight percent
- whereby said magnetic particulate is coated with an agent which is dissolved in said solvent to form a homogeneous magnetic mixture which can be deposited into said vascular defect and held by an externally applied magnetic field.
