## Abstract

Haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivatives having anti-tumorigenic activity are inclosed. Examples of the haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivatives include 3-chloroacetoamido, benzoylurca, 3-bromoacctoamido, benzoylurea, 3-todoacetoamido, benzoylurca, ethyl-3-chloroacetoamido, benzoate, ethyl-3-bromoacetoamido, benzoate and ethyl-3-iodoacetoamido, benzoate. Intermediates for synthesizing the derivatives, along with method of making and using the derivatives, are also provided.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A meta-haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative, having the formula:
wherein X is a halogen selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine and iodine, and independently Y is a substituent selected from the group consisting of a urea group, an ethoxy group, —NH—CO—NH—R, wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl group or an aryl group, and —N—R1, wherein R1 is an alkyl group or a heterocyclic group, or an acid addition salt thereof.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 1, wherein said derivative is 3-iodoacetoamido, benzoylurea.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 1, wherein said derivative is 3-bromoacetoamido, benzoylurea.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 1, wherein said derivative is 3-chloroacetoamido, benzoylurea.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

A formulation comprising a physiologically acceptable carrier and a haloacetamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 1, or an acid addition salt thereof, in an amount effective to inhibit growth of malignant cells.

### Claim 6

A para-haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative, having the formula:
wherein X is a halogen selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine and iodine, and independently Y is a substituent selected from the group consisting of a urea group, an ethoxy group, —NH—CO—NH—R, wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl group or an aryl group, and —N—R1, wherein R1 is an alkyl group, a heterocyclic group or —N—R1 is an amino acid ester, or an acid addition salt thereof.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 6, wherein said derivative is 4-iodoacetoamido, benzoylurea.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 6, wherein said derivative is 4-bromoacetoamido, benzoylurea.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6)

The haloacetoamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 6, wherein said derivative is 4-chloroacetoamido, benzoylurea.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

A formulation comprising a physiologically acceptable carrier and a haloacetamido, benzoic acid derivative of claim 6, or an acid addition salt thereof, in an amount effective to inhibit growth of malignant cells.
