Abstract
A dihydroxy compound characterized by the formula: Wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from hydrogen and straight and branched alkyl groups containing up to 18 carbon atoms; R3 is selected from —CH═CH— and (—CH2—)k, wherein k is between 0 and 6, inclusive; each Z is independently bromine or iodine, d and n are independently 0, 1 or 2; and X is hydrogen or a pendant group having the structure: wherein Y is selected from straight and branched alkyl and alkyl and alkylaryl groups containing up to 18 carbon atoms.

A dihydroxy compound characterized by the formula:
- wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and straight and branched alkyl groups containing up to 18 carbon atoms;
- R3 is selected from the group consisting of —CH═CH— and (—CH2—)k, wherein k is between 0 and 6, inclusive;
- each Z is independently bromine or iodine, d and n are independently 0, 1 or 2;
- and X is hydrogen or a pendant group having the structure:
- wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of straight and branched alkyl and alkylaryl groups containing up to 18 carbon atoms.
A poly(amide carbonate) characterized by one or more recurring structural units represented by the formula:
- wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and straight and branched alkyl groups containing up to 18 carbon atoms;
- R3 is selected from the group consisting of —CH═CH— and (—CH2—)k, wherein k is between 0 and 6, inclusive;
- each Z is independently bromine or iodine;
