Abstract
The invention features a monoclonal antibodies specific for human type I alveolar cells or for human type II alveolar cells. The invention also features methods of detecting lung injury in a subject using these monoclonal antibodies.
Claims7
A method for detecting lung injury in a human subject, the method comprising the steps of:
- contacting a specific anti-human type I alveolar cell monoclonal antibody with a test sample from a subject suspected of having acute lung injury, wherein the sample is suspected of comprising a human type I alveolar cell-specific polypeptide;
- and
- detecting specific binding of the anti-human type I alveolar cell monoclonal antibody to the human type I alveolar cell-specific polypeptide in the sample;
- wherein detection of specific binding of the anti-human type I alveolar cell monoclonal antibody to human type I alveolar cell-specific polypeptide in the sample at a level substantially elevated relative to a level in a normal subject is indicative of acute lung injury in the subject.
