Abstract
A method for producing salt-tolerant and/or osmotolerant plants, which comprises the step of transforming a plant with a recombinant vector carrying a gene encoding choline oxidase, as well as the salt-tolerant and/or osmotolerant plants produced by said method or a progeny thereof having the same properties.

A method for producing a salt-tolerant and/or osmotolerant plant which comprises transforming a plant with a recombinant vector carrying a gene encoding choline oxidase wherein said gene comprises a base sequence encoding the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO. 1 or an enzymatically active fragment therefrom.
A method for producing a salt-tolerant and/or osmotolerant rice or Arabidopsis plant which comprises transforming a plant with a recombinant vector carrying a gene encoding choline oxidase, wherein said gene comprises a base sequence encoding the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO. 1 or an enzymatically active fragment therefrom.
