Abstract

The present invention provides a 2,2′-bis(6-benzotriazolylphenol) compound represented by the formula wherein A represents a methylene group or the like, R1 and R5 each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or the like, R3 represents an alkylene group or the like, and R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The compound of the invention is useful as an UV absorber. Further, the compound of the invention can be incorporated into a copolymer by copolymerization with a vinyl monomer, and a polymer composition containing the copolymer can be used as an UV absorber.

Dependent claims

An ultraviolet ray absorber comprising a 2,2′-bis(6-benzotriazolylphenol) compound represented by the formula

wherein
A represents a single bond, a methylene group, —CH(CH3)—, —C(CH3)2— or —C(CH3)(C2H5)—,
R1 and R5 are the same or different, and each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4. carbon atoms, an aryl group, an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a halogen atom,
R2 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms,
R3 represents a single bond or a linear or branched alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and
R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.
