Abstract
This invention provides methods of treating secretory diarrhea or cystic fibrosis in a mammal which comprises administering to a mammal in need thereof an effective amount of diarylsulfonylurea. This invention also describes specific diarylsulfonylureas for use in treating secretory diarrhea or cystic fibrosis.
Claims4
A method of treating secretory diarrhea in a mammal which comprises administering to a mammal in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula
- wherein:
- R1 is selected from the group consisting of
- wherein:
- E is nitrogen, sulfur, or oxygen;
- where A is —O—, —S(O)n—, —CH2S(O)n—, —NR—, —CH2—, —CH2CH2—, or —CH2O—;
- D is —CH2—, —S(O)n—, —NR—, —CH2S(O)n—, or —O—;
- B is —CH2—, —O—, —S(O)n—, or —NR—;
- R is methyl or ethyl;
- n is 0-2;
- provided that at least one of A, B, and D is not —S(O)n— or —CH2S(O)n—;
- and
- Ra, Rb, and Rc are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halo, C1-C3 alkyl C1-C3 alkoxy, and trifluoromethyl;
- or one of Ra, Rb, and Rc is C2-C8 alkenyl, another of Ra, Rb, and Rc hydrogen or hydroxy, and the other of Ra, Rb, and Rc is hydrogen;
- R4 and R5 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C1-C3 alkyl;
- R3 is hydrogen, halo, C1-C3 alkyl, or trifluoromethyl;
- and
- R2 is halo, C1-C3 alkyl, or trifluoromethyl;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof.
A method of treating cystic fibrosis in a mammal which comprises administering to a mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of the formula
