Abstract
The invention provides dnaE polypeptides and polynucleotides encoding dnaE polypeptides and methods for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques. Also provided are methods for utilizing dnaE polypeptides to screen for antibacterial compounds.

An isolated polynucleotide comprising a nucleic acid sequence that encodes a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is not genomic DNA.
An isolated polynucleotide comprising the nucleic acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is not genomic DNA.
An isolated polynucleotide comprising a nucleic acid sequence which encodes a polypeptide consisting of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, wherein the nucleic acid sequence is not genomic DNA.
