Abstract
The current invention is a biomedical implant comprising a biomedical matrix material and a biodegradable porosifying agent. As the porosifying agent degrades in situ, an implant with an inter-connecting network is formed. The resultant mechanically stable implant allows for tissue and fluid influx into the matrix. The invention is also directed to a method for repair of mammalian tissue using the above-described implant.
Claims6
A composition for forming a differentially biodegradable implant at a tissue site comprising a porosifying agent and a catalyst to initiate polymerization of fibrinogen into a fibrin matrix, wherein said porosifying agent is particulate crosslinked gelatin and is not cross-linked to other composition components, and said catalyst is thrombin, and wherein said composition forms a fibrin matrix at the tissue site after administration thereof.
A composition for forming a differentially biodegradable implant at a tissue site comprising:
- (a) particulate crosslinked gelatin;
- (b) fibrinogen;
- and
- (c) thrombin;
- wherein the particulate crosslinked gelatin, the fibrinogen and the thrombin mix together at the tissue site and wherein said particulate crosslinked gelatin is not crosslinked to other composition components prior to said mixing at said tissue site.
