An electrode material for an electrochemical capacitor having a large capacity, having a titanium oxide compound such as titanium oxide, hydrated titanium oxide or their hydrogenated products, and at least one oxidizable and reducible metal element contained in the titanium oxide compound.

The electrode material for an electrochemical capacitor, comprising at least one titanium oxide compound selected from the group consisting of titanium oxide, hydrated titanium oxide and the hydrogenated products thereof, and at least one oxidizable and reducible metal element contained in said titanium oxide compound.
