Abstract
This invention relates to an isolated nucleic acid fragment encoding a sorbitol biosynthetic enzyme. The invention also relates to the construction of a chimeric gene encoding all or a portion of the sorbitol biosynthetic enzyme, in sense or antisense orientation, wherein expression of the chimeric gene results in production of altered levels of the sorbitol biosynthetic enzyme in a transformed host cell.
Claims10
An isolated polynucleotide comprising:
- (a) a nucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide having aldhyde reductase activity and comprising at least 300 amino acids, wherein, the amino acid sequence of the polypeptide and the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:4, SEQ ID NO:6, or SEQ ID NO:8 have at least 95% identity based on the Clustal alignment method, or
- (b) the complement of the nucleotide sequence.
