Abstract
A polymer secondary battery uses, for at least one of the active material of positive electrode and the active material of negative electrode, a polymer-carbon composite material including powdered carbon having its surfaces coated with an organic compound polymer capable of adsorbing and desorbing protons electrochemically. The polymer secondary battery has a high rate of appearance of capacity and excellent cycle characteristics.
Claims9
A polymer secondary battery using, for at least one of the active material of positive electrode and the active material of negative electrode, a porous polymer-carbon composite material comprising powdered carbon having its surfaces coated with an organic compound polymer capable of adsorbing and desorbing protons electrochemically when the battery is being operated.
- wherein said polymer-carbon composite material is obtained by chemically polymerizing a monomer yielding said organic compound polymer in the presence of said powdered carbon, and removing the solvent from the resulting polymerization product.
A polymer secondary battery using, for at least one of the active material of positive electrode and the active material of negative electrode, a polymer-carbon composite material comprising powdered carbon having its surfaces coated with an organic compound polymer capable of adsorbing and desorbing protons electrochemically when the battery is being operated.
- wherein said organic compound polymer is a polymer selected from among polymers of quinones.
A polymer secondary battery using, for at least one of the active material of positive electrode and the active material of negative electrode, a polymer-carbon composite material comprising powdered carbon having its surfaces coated with an organic compound polymer capable of adsorbing and desorbing protons electrochemically when the battery is being operated,
- wherein said polymer battery further comprises a proton-containing electrolyte selected from the group consisting of an aqueous solution, a nonaqueous solution, a solid electrolyte and a gel electrolyte.
A method of making a polymer secondary batter which comprises the steps of providing a polymer-carbon composite material obtained by chemically polymerizing, in the presence of powdered carbon, a monomer yielding an organic compound polymer capable of adsorbing and desorbing protons electrochemically during operation of the battery, and removing the solvent from the resulting polymerization product;
- and fabricating at least one of the positive and negative electrodes by forming a layer of said polymer-carbon composite material on a current collector.
