Abstract
A device for detaching a suspension assembly, adapted to support a head, staked to an actuator arm of an actuator block of a disc drive. The device includes an expandable device operable between an insertion dimension and a deswaging dimension having a flanged end defining a deswaging surface for forcing the stake from a hole of the actuator arm. In the insertion dimension, the device being sized for insertion through channels of tubular stakes for placement relative to an extended end of the stake. The device being expanded to the deswaging dimension, so that the deswaging surface of the flanged end aligns with an end surface of the stake for removing the stake from the actuator block.
Claims16
In combination:
- an actuator block including at least one actuator arm having a plurality of head suspension assemblies staked to the at least one actuator arm the head suspension assemblies including tubular stakes having an end surface and channel, the tubular stakes extending through a stake hole of the actuator arm to stake the plurality of suspension assemblies to the actuator arm;
- and
- an expandable device operable between an insertion dimension and an expanded deswaging dimension, said expandable device including a stem portion and a flanged end having an end surface defining a deswaging surface and the flanged end having a thickness smaller than a gap between opposed end surfaces of the tubular stakes of the plurality of head suspension assemblies staked to the actuator arm and in the insertion dimension, a radial dimension of the flanged end being sized for insertion through the channels of the tubular stakes and in the deswaging dimension, the radial dimension of the flanged end being sized for insertion in the gap between end surfaces of the stakes of the plurality of head suspension assemblies to align the end surface of the flanged end to abut the end surface of one of the stakes of the plurality of head suspension assemblies to remove the stake from the actuator block.
In combination:
- an expandable device operable between an insertion dimension and an expanded deswaging dimension, said expandable device including a stem and a flanged end having an end surface defining a deswaging surface, and the flanged end having a thickness smaller than a gap between end surfaces of opposed first and second stakes and in the insertion dimension, the flanged end being sized for insertion through channels of the tubular stakes;
- and, in the deswaging dimension, the flanged end being sized for insertion in the gap between the end surfaces of the first and second stakes to align the end surface of the flanged end to abut the end surface of one of said stakes stakes;
- an actuating device adapted to expand the expandable device between the insertion dimension and the deswaging dimension;
- a device adapted to move the expandable device expanded in the deswaging dimension from a first position to a second position to supply a deswaging force to the one of said stake to remove the one of said stake from an actuator arm;
- and
- a biasing member adapted to provide a biasing force to the actuator arm to counteract the deswaging force of the expandable device in the expanded deswaging dimension selectively supplied to the end surface of the stake.
In combination:
- an actuator block including at least one actuator arm having a plurality of head suspension assemblies staked to the actuator arm, the head suspension assemblies including tubular stakes having an end surface and a channel, the tubular stakes extending through a stake hole of the at least one actuator arm to stake the plurality of suspension assemblies to the at least one actuator arm;
- an actuator support adapted to detachably support the actuator block;
- an expandable device operably coupled to the actuator support and operable between an insertion dimension and an expanded deswaging dimension, said expandable device including a stem portion and a flanged end including an end surface defining a deswaging surface and the flanged end having a thickness smaller than a gap between opposed end surfaces of the tubular stakes of the plurality of head suspension assemblies staked to the at least one actuator arm and in the insertion dimension, a radial dimension of the flanged end being sized for insertion through the channels of the tubular stakes of the plurality of head suspension assemblies and in the deswaging dimension, the radial dimension of the flanged end being sized for insertion in a gap between the end surfaces of the stakes of the plurality of head suspension assemblies so that the deswaging surface of the flanged end aligns with the end surface of one of the tubular stakes to remove the one of the stakes from the at least one actuator arm;
- an actuator device adapted to expand the expandable device between the insertion dimension and the deswaging dimension;
- and
- a drive assembly operably coupled to the expandable device, and adapted to move the expandable device from a first position to a second position in the expanded deswaging dimension to force the tubular stake from the stake hole of the actuator arm.
