Abstract
A metal material is placed on a lower mold of a press metal mold which has an upper mold and the lower mold not having engagement portions. The metal material is fused by a high energy heat source, and obtained molten metal over a melting point is pressed with the press metal mold and transformed into a predetermined configuration. The molten metal is cooled at a rate over a critical cooling rate simultaneously with or after the transformation, and the molded product of amorphous metal in predetermined configuration is obtained.
Claims8
A molded amorphous metal product as a face body of a golf club head comprising a body substantially devoid of crystalline structure caused by non-uniform solidification and non-uniform nucleation and having a formed shape produced by the method involving fusing, by means of a high energy heat source, an amount of metal material in a lower mold of a press metal mold having an upper mold, in which a contact portion of said upper mold that the molded amorphous metal product directly contacts in a convex curved face of which a radius of curvature is from about 5 to about 100 inches, and said lower mold which, when pressed together with said upper mold, cooperates with said upper mold to provide a cavity having a formed shape and a gap in communication with said cavity to receive excess pressed metal from the filled cavity, and forming, when simultaneously cooling upon molding, said body and flash, and removing said flash leaving said body substantially devoid of crystalline structure.
A molded amorphous metal product as a face body of a golf club head formed in a configuration of the face body comprising a composition made by that a metal material is placed on a lower mold of a press metal mold having an upper mold, in which a contact portion of said upper mold that the molded amorphous metal product directly contacts is a convex curved face of which a radius of curvature is from about 5 to about 100 inches, and said lower mold without engagement portions fitting each other, the metal material is fused by a high energy heat source which can fuse the metal material to obtain molten metal, the obtained molten metal over a melting point is pressed between the upper mold and the lower mold thereby transforming the metal into the configuration of the face body, and the molten metal is cooled to form said molded product at a cooling rate whereby formation of crystalline structure in said metal is substantially prevented both simultaneous to and after the transformation.
