Abstract
A signal used in the transmission of data in a communication system including immediately successive cells for the purpose of cell synchronization, includes filler cells containing a predefined bit pattern. This pattern is provided with an error protection code that differs from an error protection code used for user data. Even if the user data should coincidentally contain the predefined bit pattern, the synchronization circuit will not be able to be simulated, since this false bit pattern is provided with a different error protection code. In order to test and ensure the synchronization state, a BIP (bit interleaved parity) value at the end of the cell is checked at the receiver end.
Claims22
A transmitter comprising:
- a memory for storing a synchronization cell having a synchronization bit pattern including a first error protection code;
- an encoder for encoding input data into data cells each including a second error protection code,
- the first error protection code being different than the second error protection code;
- and
- means for switching between said memory and said encoder, for providing the data cells and the synchronization cell interspersed for transmission.
A receiver comprising:
- a switch, coupled to a received signal, for providing the received signal at either of first or second outputs,
- the received signal including at least one synchronization cell containing a synchronization bit pattern and a first error protection code and including data cells each containing a second error protection code, the first and second error protection codes being different;
- a searching controller, coupled to the first output, for searching for the synchronization bit pattern in the received signal and for controlling said switch to provide the received signal at the second output when the synchronization bit pattern is detected;
- and
- a monitoring controller, coupled to the second output, for monitoring synchronization of the received signal and controlling said switch to provide the received signal at the first output when a synchronization error is detected.
A transmitter comprising:
- a memory for storing a synchronization cell having a synchronization bit pattern including a first error protection code;
- an encoder for encoding input data into data cells each including a second error protection code,
- the first error protection code being different than the second error protection code, the first and second error protection codes being bit parity codes with different polarity patterns, respectively;
- and
- means for switching between said memory and said encoder, for providing the data cells and the synchronization cell interspersed for transmission.
