Abstract
The instant invention relates to producing fluorinated propanes and pentanes. More particularly it relates to producing perhalofluoropropanes and pentanes by reacting dihalodifluoromethanes with polyfluoroethylenes, notably tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE) while in the presence of an aluminum chlorofluoride catalyst.

A composition which comprises at least one member from the group consisting of CClF2CF2CBrClF, CBrCl2C2F5, CBrF2CF2CCl2F, CBr3C2F5, CBrF2CBr2CF3, CClF2CClFCF2CCl2CF3, CClF2CF2CCl2CF2CClF2, C5Br2Cl2F8 isomers;
- CClF2CF2CCl2C2F5, C5BrCl2F9 isomers;
- C5Br2ClF9 isomers;
- CBrF2CF2CBr2C2F5;
- C2F5CCl2C2F5, CF3CCl2CF2CF2CF3, C2F5CBrClC2F5, CF3CBrClCF2CF2CF3;
- C2F5CBr2C2F5 and CF3CBr2CF2CF2CF3.
A composition of matter comprising CCl2FCF2CF3, CClF2CF2CClF2 and at least one member selected from the group consisting of C2F5CCl2C2F5, CCl3CF2CF3, and CCl3CF3.
