Abstract
Stable microbial enzyme with alcohol dehydrogenase activity having an activity maximum at ca. 50° C., process for its isolation and its use for the enantioselective reduction/oxidation of organic keto compounds/hydroxy compounds wherein, depending on the type of the starting compounds R- or S-hydroxy compounds are obtained. In particular an alcohol dehydrogenase obtainable from Lactobacillus brevis has proven to be suitable.
Claims5
A process for recombinant production of an alcohol dehydrogenase, comprising transferring or transfecting a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell with a nucleic acid molecule which encodes the protein of SEQ ID NO:8, culturing said cell, expressing said alcohol dehydrogenase, and isolating said alcohol dehydrogenase produced thereby.
An isolated nucleic acid molecule from Lactobacillus brevis encoding an alcohol dehydrogenase which catalyzes the conversion of acetophenone to R-phenylethanol, wherein said alcohol dehydrogenase retains at least 95% activity after about 30 minutes incubation over a temperature range of about 20° C. to about 60° C.
