Abstract
An angiographic injector system includes a manifold and valve which selectively connects either a syringe pump or a low pressure system to a catheter which is inserted into a patient. The valve is normally biased to a state which connects the low pressure system to the catheter for pressure monitoring, saline flushing, or aspirating functions. When an injection is to be made, the valve automatically switches so that the low pressure system is disconnected and not exposed to high pressure, while the syringe pump is connected through the manifold to the catheter.
Claims18
An angiographic injector for injecting contrast media into a patient for detection by X-rays comprising:
- a housing;
- a hand held control remote from said housing generating a control signal corresponding to a desired contrast media discharge rate for said injector;
- said control signal being continuously variable according to continuously varying movement of a user's hand on said hand held control, said signal being continuously variable and sustainable at any value between preset maximum and minimum values corresponding to maximum and minimum contrast media discharge flow rates;
- a computer coupled to said hand held control such that said computer regulates a motor control voltage in response to said control signal;
- a syringe for discharging a fluid;
- and
- a syringe drive motor coupled to said computer and coupled to said syringe such that said drive motor causes contrast media fluid in said syringe to discharge from said syringe at said desired contrast media fluid discharge rate;
- said syringe drive motor having a capacity to inject said contrast media at a pressure greater than approximately 150 p.s.i.
An angiographic injector for injecting angiographic media into a patient for detection by a monitoring instrument comprising:
- a housing:
- a hand held control remote from said housing generating a control signal corresponding to a desired contrast media discharge rate for said injector;
- said control signal being continuously variable according to continuously varying movement of a user's hand on said hand held control, said signal being continuously variable and sustainable at any value between preset maximum and minimum values corresponding to maximum and minimum angiographic media discharge flow rates;
- a computer coupled to said control such that said computer regulates a motor control voltage in response to said control signal;
- a syringe for discharging a fluid;
- a syringe drive motor coupled to said computer and coupled to said syringe such that said drive motor causes angiographic media fluid in said syringe to discharge from said syringe at said desired contrast media discharge rate;
- said syringe drive motor having a capacity to inject said angiographic media at a pressure greater than about 150 p.s.i.;
- and
- a connection on said computer for receiving an electrocardiographic signal derived from a patient and wherein said signal is coupled to movement of said syringe drive motor.
