Abstract
Disclosed is an improved method for the preparation of highly pure haloformimine compounds in high yields by reacting a formimine compound in a solvent with a halogenating agent while maintaining the pH of the halogenation reaction in the range of 2 to 5. The pH of the reaction may be maintained by a variety of means, such as by the addition of a base.
Claims9
A process for preparing haloformimines of the formula
- wherein:
- X, X1═halo;
- Y═halo, CO2R1, CX1(═NR), C(O)NR10R11;
- R═OR2, NR3R4, N═CR5R6;
- R2═H, C(O)R7, (C1-C18)alkyl, substituted (C1-C18)alkyl, (C7-C10)aralkyl, substituted (C7-C10)aralkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl;
- R3 and R4 are independently selected from:
- (C1-C18)alkyl, substituted (C1-C18)alkyl, (C7-C10)aralkyl, substituted (C7-C10)aralkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl;
- R5 and R6 are independently selected from:
- H, halo, CO2R1, (C1-C18)alkyl, substituted (C1-C18)alkyl, (C7-C10)aralkyl, substituted (C7-C10)aralkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl;
- R7═(C1-C18)alkyl, substituted (C1-C18)alkyl, (C7-C10)aralkyl, substituted (C7-C10)aralkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, NR8R9;
- R1, R8, R9, R10 and R11 are independently selected from:
- H, (C1-C18)alkyl, substituted (C1-C18)alkyl, (C7-C10)aralkyl, substituted (C7-C10)aralkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl;
- wherein the process comprises combining a formimine compound with a solvent and sufficient base to provide a mixture having a pH in the range of 2 to 5, followed by reacting said formimine mixture with a halogenating agent to produce a haloformimine compound, while maintaining the pH of the mixture in the range of 2 to 5.
