Abstract
This invention provides methods for denaturing nucleic acids. The methods involve contacting a solution comprising double stranded nucleic acid with a surface having denaturation activity sufficient to produce denaturation within a period of not more than one hour.

A method of denaturing or partially denaturing a double stranded nucleic acid, comprising contacting a solution comprising said double stranded nucleic acid with a surface having denaturation activity sufficient to produce said denaturation within a period of not more than one hour, wherein said surface comprises acid groups attached to an electron withdrawing polymer structure providing said surface with an acidity sufficient to produce said denaturation.
